Go Fug Yourself Celebrity News Blog

Go Fug Yourself is a celebrity gossip blog with a tricky title to decipher. While the site’s FAQ handily defines the word fugly for out-of-touch readers as “fantastically ugly,” the tagline reads “Fugly is the new pretty,” suggesting that the word denotes something to which a celebrity might aspire.

The writing, though, makes it pretty clear that “fugly” is blatantly negative. The general tone of the site is of the celebrity-bashing sort, more for those who despise the stars rather then look up to them. Of particular interest to Go Fug Yourself are photographs of celebrities looking less than their best.

The two women (Jessica and Heather) who manage and write for the site take a first-person stance in the articles, ripping into actors and actresses with sarcastic glee and a casual, personal blog tone. Of young actress Ellen Page, Jessica rants: “But, sister, you need to fire your stylist (or hire one) because you have worn essentially the same thing to every single important event for years on end.”

Blogger Heather serves up the same evaluations, also less journalistic than conversational. Of Kyra Sedgwick’s ensemble, she wavers: “As for the dress, I’m undecided. I loved it at first, but I couldn’t tell until I enlarged it just how much it looks like her bra is showing, rather than just being black lacy detail.”

For celebrities who dare to be seen in public in outfits judged unattractive by Jessica and Heather, the dreaded “fug” is toted out in the headline. For those deemed particularly dreadful, it’s worked into their name: “Jennifer Fug Hewitt,” “Alexfugdra Burke” or “Lady Gaga as the Fug Monster.”

The site has disabled comments due to fan backlash over the vitriolic writing style, but the site remains popular with those who like to see celebrities brought down a peg or two. Go Fug Yourself is a member of Buzz Media, which also publishes Celebuzz, Idolator and The Superficial.
