The fame game can take its toll on those who are always in the limelight. When they hit rock bottom, rehab is there to pick up the pieces. Some stars even like rehab so much, they’re quick to check back in. Come take a spin on the celebrity rehab roulette wheel:
Lindsay Lohan—You might need a degree in calculus to figure out how many times LiLo’s been in rehab (estimates hover around five.) An episode of Glee made light of the string of relapses, much to Lindsay’s chagrin.
Robert Downey Jr.—The actor’s role as a drug user in Less Than Zero turned true-life when Downey entered rehab for the second time. The stint was court-ordered after officers found heroin, cocaine, crack and a gun in his car.
Matthew Perry—After his sitcom Mr. Sunshine was cancelled, Perry checked himself into rehab for the third time, just as a precaution. Before his earlier stints, he says he was downing 20 to 30 Vicodin pills and a quart of vodka a day.
Elizabeth Taylor—The iconic actress didn’t have quite as many rehab visits as she had husbands (two vs. seven), but her stints at the Betty Ford Center still made the news as she struggled with addictions to alcohol and pills.
Jonathan Rhys Meyer—The British star of The Tudors is said to have been in rehab a total of four times, battling an alcohol addiction that once got him booted from an airplane for drunken behavior.
Kelly Osbourne—In a classic case of the apple not falling far from the tree, Osbourne—whose dad, Ozzy, struggled with addiction for decades—has done two stints in rehab in her 20s.
Whitney Houston—Pop diva Whitney Houston has been to rehab at least three times in an effort to kick a persistent cocaine addiction. In 2009, she first publicly admitted her drug use in an Oprah interview.
Mackenzie Phillips—Actress Phillips was fired from One Day at a Time in the ’70s and has struggled with addiction ever since, logging at least 10 trips to rehab, including a season on Dr. Drew’s Celebrity Rehab.
Amy Winehouse—The singer of the song “Rehab” knows what she’s talking about. She’s been in and out at least twice, once reportedly stopping to buy a mini bottle of vodka and drinking it at the shop counter before checking in.
Keith Urban—Country star Urban checked into rehab for his third time just four months into his marriage to Nicole Kidman, after she and some close friends staged an intervention. Urban says the move saved his marriage.
Even when they’re not acting (or singing), it apparently takes several “takes” for celebrity rehab to “take.”
