Rapper Jim Jones Arrested for Disorderly Conduct

Rapper Jim Jones was arrested on Wednesday, February 13th for disorderly conduct with a police officer. It is unclear exactly what happened to cause the rapper’s arrest, but the police station in sleepy Fairlawn, NJ is likely receiving a whole lot more scrutiny than it’s used to. Jim Jones has an estimated net worth of $10 million and has produced records with artists like Lil Wayne, Diddy, Wyclef Jean, Prodigy and others. Seen as a real, down-to-earth rapper, he has a huge fan base on the East Coast and throughout the United States.

Probably his temper

Ask any Grand Rapids criminal defense lawyer and he’ll (or she’ll) tell you that the most important thing to do when talking to a police officer is to keep your cool. Unfortunately, Jones’ infamous temper likely got him arrested.

The Fairlawn-Saddlebrook Patch, a local news outlet, reported that a neighbor had filed a complaint with the police department that Jones’ car was snowbound and illegally parked in front of his home. Sgt. James Corcoran was dispatched to the scene to check out the situation. While he was inspecting the car. Jones exited his home and asked Sgt. Corcoran what he was doing.

Don’t lose your cool

This altercation may have given Corcoran reason to run the tags on the vehicle. When he did so, he found that the Harlem-born rapper had failed to respond to a Paterson, NJ motor vehicle violation some years ago and that he had failed to respond to a citation for snow left on the sidewalk in front of his suburban home.

Corcoran reportedly asked Jones to come with him to the police station to handle these issues. Jones refused and “got out of line” according to the police sergeant. While he would have easily been able to pay the fines for these issues, he became violent and irrational, causing Corcoran to place him under arrest.

This should be a lesson to anyone stopped by the cops. Stay calm, do what they ask and don’t be stupid! You may be able to avoid an unnecessary arrest.
