Nicole Richie finally started earning a living. After years of doing, well, nothing – and getting famous for it – Nicole Richie started a clothing line, Winter Kate. It had the makings of an impressive start in the fashion world.
Unfortunately, now her favorite boutique, Kitson, is pretty upset with Winter Kate – and Nicole Richie.
It all started in August, 2010, when Richie’s manufacturer, Majestic Mills, originally filed suit against Kitson. They alleged that the retailer owed them $225,000 for merchandise they purchased the previous year.
Kitson recently countersued Majestic Mills for “inferior” merchandise that showed up late, and for failing to line up Nicole Richie for a Winter Kate launch party, at which she was scheduled to appear. Kitson claims that this cost them $500,000.
This might leave some of you scratching your heads. Is a Nicole Richie appearance really worth $500K? The same Nicole Richie who got famous just for hanging out with Paris Hilton and shopping at Kitson?
Some say yes. Guess her life is not that “simple” anymore, huh?
While a Richie appearance probably costs only $20,000, the appearance itself would’ve generated a lot of publicity for Kitson. Let’s be honest, Kitson is actually famous because of all of the celebrity press. They love when celebs are photographed on shopping trips carrying the bright blue Kitson bag. Between the print advertising & the television publicity of a Nicole Richie appearance for Winter Kate, some in the fashion press say it actually could’ve generated that kind of money.
It’s been made clear that Nicole Richie is actually not in trouble. The suit is strictly between Majestic Mills and Kitson. Kitson claims that they have nothing but good will towards Nicole Richie and her Winter Kate clothing line. Could be true, but they sort of have to say that, right?
