It looks like Brooklyn Nets star Kris Humphries is cutting ties with a second person — his divorce lawyer in California. Divorce lawyer Marshall Walter filed paperwork on Thursday requesting to be removed from the currently pending case, citing “irreconcilable differences” and an “irremediable breakdown” of the lawyer-client relationship with Humphries.
Mr. Humphries is attempting to prove that his ex, Kim Kardashian, defrauded him in order to annul the marriage instead of getting a divorce. While most Spokane divorce attorneys suggest that amicable divorces tend to be less stressful, you also have to be firm about what you want in any legal agreement and consider all possible legal avenues. In Humphries’ case, this has lead to a battle lasting far longer than his 72-day marriage to Kardashian.
Why did the lawyer leave?
This story throws up all sorts of red flags with regard to Humphries’ behavior as well as that of his lawyer.
A recent TMZ article suggests that Mr. Walter disagreed with Humphries’ attempt to annul the marriage due to fraud, because there appear to be no legal grounds for that avenue. Walter suggested they attempt to file a more traditional divorce agreement, but Humphries is holding firm on the marriage annulment. It seems that Walter is taking, in his mind, a principled stand by not arguing in court for something he perceives as obviously inadmissible.
What happens next for Kris Humphries?
Humphries still has a general divorce lawyer, Lee Hutton, but he will need to find a new attorney to represent him in California court proceedings — and soon. His divorce hearing with Kardashian is set for May 6th.
