Prenuptial Agreements

Marriage is the fusion of two distinctly separate lives into one. Likes, dislikes, moods, personalities, and personal effects all get mixed together. If you are uncomfortable with all that mixing you can always choose to have a prenuptial agreement drawn up. A prenuptial agreement is a legal document that essentially says “This is mine and that is yours.”

Alas, we’ve found something dumber than getting your spouse’s name tattooed on your arm. It absolutely amazes me that celebrities still get married these days without concluding the prenup business first. With a 50% and rising, nation-wide divorce rate, and non-stop high-profile divorce d.r.a.m.a everywhere you look, you’d think people would start to catch on. We live in a world where 55-hour marriages happen and they’re kind of not that big of a deal. Even TV actress Jana Kramer and her husband of one month, Jonathan Schaech, just filed for divorce. That’s right, one month. And Elizabeth Taylor had how many husbands?

Kelsey Grammer is the latest of the celebs to face the divorce papers after his wife of 13 years, Camille Donatacci Grammer (wife #3), filed for divorce not six weeks ago (and P.S., 55-year-old Grammer just found out his new 29-year-old girlfriend – and where did she come from suddenly? – is expecting his fifth child). See? Drama. Yet even given his past, having been married twice before, Grammer didn’t feel it necessary to have Donatacci sign a prenuptial agreement before the wedding vows. And now she has claim to syndication residuals from the last 7 seasons of “Frasier.”

When Reese Witherspoon and Ryan Philippe got married in 1999, they also decided against a prenup. Then 6 years later when they divorced, they had to split their earnings. And she was making 10 times more than he was at the time. Good for him.

And let us not forget Sir Paul McCartney and his disastrous divorce to Heather Mills, which ended horrifically after only 4 years.  Sure, they were in love, but I would put $48.7 million on him never making that mistake again.

Sandra Bullock on the other hand, now here’s a gal who uses her head – her cheating ex, Jesse James, won’t get a dime of her Miss Congeniality cash.  She was smart enough to have him sign a prenuptial agreement before the I love yous and together forevers, keeping her assets and property out of his hands.

It may not feel great to have the conversation, to rain on the parade and predict a chance of divorce, but ask Kelsey Grammer if he would do anything differently if given the chance to go back and do it all again.

Cheers to you, Frasier Crane.
I sure hope you’ve got a good family law firm.

According to NY Daily News, Mark-Paul Gosselaar and Lisa Ann Russell have separated. The couple has been married for 13 years, but have recently had some differences. Mark is best known for his role in Saved by the Bell, but has recently found a new role in the TV series called Franklin & Bash.

Lisa and Mark have a six year old named Michael Charles, and a four year old named Ava Lorenn.

An insider told newspapers that Mark is taking the split very hard. One report said that Gosselaar failed to show up to promote his new TNT series called “”Franklin & Bash”". This may be a result of the separation.

While Mark and Lisa will undoubtedly remain committed to their children, their separation will not be easy for either party.

Sienna Miller and Jude Law arrive at the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute Benefit in New York

We seem to be obsessed with celebrities and pop culture, especially when a famous relationship goes sour.  I myself am obsessed with the whole divorce with Sandra Bullock.  However, despite all of these break ups and get togethers, it has been rumored that Jude Law and Sienne Miller are engaged once again and planning a marriage together.  Perhaps they should contact a matrimonial attorney to help them arrange all of the legal proceedings, and maybe even a pre-nup.

This famous couple were together and then split in 2006, from Jude Law’s huge public affair with the nanny.  That messy involvement seemed to go unnoticed when both made a celebrity appearance at New York’s Metropolitan Opera Ball, this past May.

A traditional wedding would be cliche; Sienna instead would like to have a ‘bohemian-style’ marriage this summer.  Her sister, Savannah, will be designing her wedding dress.  They decided they would like to have their vows done in The Big Apple of New York.

To add a little spice into the mix, a source tells us that, “Sienna is also saying she has some other exciting news, but she is not saying anything at the moment.”

Sienna, after the split, started dating throughout Hollywood, going out with both actors Matthew Rhys and Rhys Ifans, and eventually Balthazar Getty.  It doesn’t seem that Sienna had learned her lesson the first time!  Mr. Jude Law, in the meantime, had a child with Samantha Burke, former model.

Additionally, the new life starts by having their home a few miles from Jude’s previous wife’s house.  Sadie Frost still lives there with their three children.

Do we think it’s time for Sienna to invest in a divorce attorney, such as a family attorney in Lewisville?  Or will their vows stick for good this time?  I think third time, is not the charm.

Christian Dior Launches DTrick

Singer Bobby Brown’s tumultuous marriage and subsequent divorce to singer Whitney Houston is what has made headlines for the R&B star in the past. The famous couple’s fourteen year marriage ended in 2006 when Houston filed for divorce in the Orange County Ca Superior Court.  According to People, the couple had signed a pre-nuptial agreement which stated that Brown would not receive any spousal support or alimony if the marriage was terminated.  After Brown and Houston split, Houston was awarded sole custody of their daughter Bobby Kristina. Then, the couple returned to court in 2007 when Brown sued for custody and spousal support.

However, he will appear in a Massachusetts court next month on June 24 in reference to another ex according to the Norfolk register of Probate. Brown has filed a bid to prove to the court that he can no longer afford the $5,500 a month he pays to Kim Ward the mother to two of Brown’s children because he has had a “material change in circumstances.” Brown has been delinquent in the past with his child support payments to Ward. In 2006, the MA court threatened to arrest Brown if he were to enter the state Massachusetts because he owed Ward $11,000 in child support. Brown ended up spending three nights in the Norfolk County jail and had to pay the court $19,150.

With his long history of family law issues it sounds like Brown needs to secure the permanent assistance of a good Boston divorce attorney.

Larry King during a videotaping of his Larry K...

Image via Wikipedia

Oh – what a surprise! Another celeb is heading toward divorce after allegedly cheating on his wife. Must be a 2010 Hollywood trend.

Famous TV host Larry King and his soon-to-be-ex wife Shawn King are on their way to a divorce after they both filed on Wednesday in Los Angeles Superior Court. The two simply cited “irreconcilable differences,” but are in disagreement about the custody of their two sons.

Allegations of Larry cheating on Shawn with her sister Shannon Engemann are now swirling all around the media. Nothing has been confirmed…yet.

Larry’s overall net worth is about $144 million and according to California divorce law, Shawn is legally entitled to half of his earnings due to the lack of a prenuptial agreement after being married for 13 years.

This is the TV host’s eighth divorce. Dare I say…better luck next time?
