David Arquette Files for Divorce from Courteney Cox

While Courteney Cox and David Arquette separated in October of 2010, it wasn’t until this past Friday that Arquette turned divorce papers over to the Los Angeles Superior Court.

People reports that Arquette listed the reason for their divorce as irreconcilable differences and is seeking joint legal and physical custody of the couple’s daughter Coco. He did not petition for spousal or child support, and the documents show that Arquette intends to represent himself in the proceedings. As divorce and family lawyers in Knoxville can tell you, such a decision is extremely unusual and a bad move for anyone to make unless they have a thorough understanding of divorce law.

That said, his decision not to hire an attorney could be okay if he and Cox keep things amicable, which they may be able to do — the pair has been successfully parenting Coco and Cox referred to Arquette as her “favorite person in the world” back in January.

Arquette and Cox were married on June 12, 1999 and stayed together for more than 11 years.
