Stacy Phillips is a Certified Family Law Specialist licensed by the State of California. Since 1984 she has been practicing in the area of Family Law and is a founding partner at the firm of Phillips, Lerner, Lauzon & Jamra, LLP. She is a member of the State Bar of California, the American Bar Association and is admitted to practice in all of California’s State Courts as well as the Southern District of the California U.S. District Court.
Specializing in divorce and custodial issues, Phillips has represented many celebrity clients including singer Bobby Brown, baseball legend Daryl Strawberry and the conservators involved with recoding artist, Britney Spears. Phillips has also represented numerous former spouses of prominent actors and musicians.
After graduating Columbia Law School in New York, Phillips immediately began to make a name for herself. She has successfully fought to assist domestic violence victims by drafting a bill that extends the statue of limitations and allows domestic abuse victims the ability to sue their abusers in civil court. This bill eventually passed and is now known as California Civil Procedure Section 340.15.
A frequent fixture in the media, Phillips has appeared on various television networks including ABC, VH1, Court TV, Fox, CNBC, E! Entertainment Television and the TV Guide Channel. Her appearances on American television have also prompted other countries to take notice and request her services. Phillips has appeared on British, Canadian, Hungarian and Japanese television programs. Working other media outlets, she has also been featured in numerous magazines, radio programs, online features and was even recruited by American and United Airlines to provide part of their recorded, in-flight programming.
An accomplished author, Phillips has edited legal articles, written forewords and penned her own book. Her book, Divorce: It’s All About Control How to Win the Emotional, Psychological and Legal Wars, was released in 2005 and became a popular bestseller. The piece received recognition in 2006 when it received a Certificate of Commendation from Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa and other Los Angeles officials. Ironically, one of Phillips’ clients is Corina Villaraigosa, who is in divorce proceedings with her mayoral husband.
Giving back to the community, Phillips has worked on behalf of abused and neglected children on a pro bono basis. Frequently involved with numerous speaking engagements, Phillips lectures on topics relating to ethics and legal issues at Dartmouth College. She has also lectured at other educational institutions including UCLA, Loyola Law School, Pepperdine University, Southwestern Law School and Western University School of Law. Her speaking engagements are geared towards legal professionals as well as women.
