Perhaps the most recognized female attorney both in name and face, Gloria Allred has been representing celebrities for many years. Graduating from Loyola Law School, Allred began her legal career after being admitted to the California State Bar in 1975. A former teacher, Allred’s previous occupations include secondary school teaching and serving as a lecturer at the University of Southern California. Today, she is the founding partner at the law firm of Allred, Maroko and Goldberg.
Former President Ronald Reagan recognized Allred’s accomplishments by awarding her the President’s Award for Outstanding Volunteerism. Additionally, she is a three time Emmy nominee and was chosen by USA Today as one of the most important radio talk show hosts in America. Known as an outstanding female attorney, Allred received the Presidential Award from the National Association of Woman Lawyers.
Recognized by multiple sources, Allred has also made an impact in the educational community. She received an honorary law degree from the University Of West Los Angeles School Of Law. Influencing the next generation, Allred’s daughter, Lisa Bloom, is a legal television news analyst appearing on CBS, CNN and HLN networks.
Specializing in cases relating to civil rights, discrimination, children’s and women’s issues, Allred has legally counseled many celebrity clients including actress Hunter Tylo, the Nicole Brown Simpson family, and others tied to celebrities. Allred represented Paula Jones, who accused Former President Bill Clinton of sexual harassment. During the Scott Peterson murder trial, she represented Peterson’s alleged mistress, Amber Frey. In 2009, she was called on to counsel another alleged mistress, Rachel Uchitel, who was rumored to be involved with golfer Tiger Woods.
While Britney Spears and ex-husband Kevin Federline were going through divorce and child custody proceedings, Allred served as counsel to Spears’ former bodyguard, Tony Barretto. Other people Allred represented who were involved with celebrity legal proceedings include Jessica Gibson in the counter-suit actor Rob Lowe for sexual harassment, Elizabeth Mazzocchi against actor Esai Morales for multiple civil claims and photographer Henry Trappler against Motley Crue drummer, Tommy Lee.
Taking on major organizations and establishments, Allred fought against the denial of gay marriages in California. In 2004, her firm was the first to challenge this law as being unconstitutional. She also represented Katrina Yeaw, a female child, against the Boy Scots of America and legally battled the former Sav-On Drugstore chain for having separate boy and girl toy aisles. Working as a consultant, Allred was also retained by Cindy Streit regarding claims of fraud during the making of the movie, Borat: The Cultural Learnings of America to Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.
