Recently filed lawsuits
Country singer LeAnn Rimes is suing a dentist who she claims damaged her teeth so badly that she has suffered from personal and professional distress. Rimes’ dental malpractice lawsuit states that she has also suffered from psychiatric and emotional injury due to the procedures. She is suing the dentist for extensive damages related to loss of earnings capacity.
Music icon Chubby Checker is suing Hewlett Packard and Palm for violating the trademark he holds on his name. The companies offer a “Chubby Checker” app designed to measure penis length. The singer wants the app shut down. He is also suing for an unspecified amount of money related to damage of his professional reputation.
Singers Drake and Chris Brown have sued each other in connection with a nightclub brawl last June. The singers are asking a judge to determine who should pay if a man injured during the brawl is awarded damages in a separate lawsuit. Lawyers for both singers have refused to comment on the filings.
Alex Band, lead singer of The Calling, is being sued by a woman who claims she was harassed by the man while working in his record label’s office. The former secretary is suing for unspecified damages related to sexual harassment. Legal representatives for Band have denied the accusations.
Singer Mary J. Blige has been hit by a lien in New York for more than $900,000 in back taxes. This is the latest in a long string of financial problems for Blige. Taxation lawyers in Plano might have a few tips to share with Ms. Blige regarding how to best handle the lien.
Hip-hop artist Akon is being sued by a company that worked with him to create a failed social networking site. Atlanta Business Video is suing the star for more than $127,000 owed for work completed by the firm.
Rap legend Snoop Dogg is facing a new tax lien from the IRS, to whom he allegedly owes $540,000 in back taxes. The rapper was also served with a tax lien in 2010.
Recently settled lawsuits
Singer Drake has settled a lawsuit with a woman who performed vocals on his hit song “Marvin’s Room.” The details of Drake’s settlement with singer Ericka Lee have not been released, and it’s unclear whether she will be paid for her work on the song.
How I Met Your Mother star Alyson Hannigan has secured a restraining order against a mentally ill individual who threatened her life. According to court documents, Hannigan has been repeatedly harassed by John Hobbs, a man who was recently released from a mental institution.
A New York judge has ordered former NBA star Stephon Marbury to pay his ex-mistress $330,000 in hush money. Marbury promised the woman $900,000 to keep their affair a secret but failed to pay all that he had promised.
