What is it with celebrities these days? You would think a Hollywood judge would be in their glory facing the prospect of making a judiciary example of someone so famous and well known.  Yet more and more of our celebrities are sent to jail for doing illegal crimes and then released long before their sentence is up.

Lindsay Lohan just served 23 days of a 90 day sentence for violating her probation related to a recent DUI.  In 2007, Paris Hilton served only 5 days of her 45 day sentence for violating her probation following a DUI.  Then again, Ms. Hilton was also oh so very sick (cough cough).

Do these people have miracle criminal law attorneys in California or are they just too cool for orange jumpsuits?  I mean seriously, how many second chances can one person get?

Now rapper DMX (known in real life as Earl Simmons) has been released from a Los Angeles County Jail Thursday [8/12] after serving only 18 days of his 90 day sentence for violating his probation for – guess what? – a DUI!

I don’t know about you, but I’m thinking a DUI is a pretty dangerous offense.  It should be considered quite something that we just collectively, as a society, don’t care.

Last year Mr. Simmons served a full 90 days after cutting a deal on animal cruelty charges and drug possession in Arizona.  Surprised that Arizona would keep him locked up for all 90 days?  Me either.

Well things seem to roll a little differently in the city of angels.  The rapper was ordered back to jail for 6 months in early 2010 after confessing to cocaine use while on a probation from a 2002 reckless driving DUI.  On July 26th the musician began his sentence.  He vowed to spend his time to making steps towards recovery and was released on August 12th.

Seems a crowded jail and some good temporary behavior can get you really far in Hollywood.

Another day, another George Michael arrest. British media outlets recently reported that the 47-year-old singer was arrested after crashing his car into a building (WHAM!) in the upscale residential area of North London known as Hampstead. Michael was taken to a police station and released on bail shortly after.

As a solo artist, George Michael has sold more than 100 million albums worldwide. However, he is no stranger to run-ins with the law. He was arrested for “engaging in a lewd act” (in a public toilet of all places) in 1998; in February 2006, he was arrested for possession of Class C drugs; and in September 2008, he was again arrested for drugs, this time for possession of Class A and Class C substances.

Larry King and Ryan Seacrest raised 1.18 million for CNN telethon which will aid in the Gulf oil spill relief efforts.

The telethon was a 2 hour event and included celebrity performances by Faith Hill, Sting and Tim McGraw.   The telethon also described the plight of some of of residents of the Gulf coast who have lost their livelihood due to the BP oil spill.

Many industries including fishing, hospitality, hotel, manufacturing and retail are affected by the oil spill.  Filing BP claims can be complicated and need a lot of documentation.   One of the most difficult aspects of the BP claims process is assembling and presenting the initial documentation that is required to actually initiate the claim after you have received a claim number and been assigned an adjuster.

The BP claims process is preparing to transition into the hands of Mr. Kenneth Feinberg’s Gulf Recovery Fund.  The law firm of Smith Stag,  Louisiana environmental lawyers assists clients with BP claims – as it is a very complicated  process.

The BP oil spill is one of the worst environmental disasters the United States has ever seen.  It is important to keep in mind that even though the oil spill is capped that there are many people still impacted by it that need help.

SCRAM braceletWhile the average citizen would hardly gain the kind of attention that celebrities do for something like alcohol monitoring, Lindsay Lohan sure knows how to cause quite a stir. The latest news about Lindsay Lohan drinking was reported just after the MTV Movie Awards.

The SCRAM officials reportedly received an update on the alcohol reading from Lohan’s ankle bracelet. The reading was not exactly alcohol-free. This comes about a month after having been sentenced to wear the bracelet, and being told not to drink.  It was up Judge Marsha Ravel will have to decide on July 6th if Lohan is lying, or if the device was inaccurate.  In the end, Lohan served jail time and is currently in rehab.

Blame it on the spray tan?

According to AboutLawCases.com, some researchers question the accuracy of SCRAM bracelets. This is particularly true when looking at the results of women with “lots of lotions, sanitizers or odor agents on their bodies.” These may cause a false reading.   So the question remains, was Lindsay Lohan lying? Too bad she couldn’t make a precedent with the Spray Tan Defense.

Jason Wahler has been known for his role in the MTV show, The Hills, but lately he has been known for his run ins with the law. According to Access Hollywood, Jason Wahler was arrested for driving under the influence on Friday, May 22nd. This arrest would be the sixth drinking–related arrest for the 23 year old star.

People Magazine stated that Wahler was arrested while driving a Chevy Tahoe in Newport Beach, California.

A few weeks earlier, several videos have surfaced of him getting arrested after a fight in Cabo San Lucas on March 11th. Similarly, he was arrested in September for an alleged assault and drinking related problems.

These aren’t the only criminal problems that Jason Wahler has seen. In 2007, he was given 30 days in jail for a fight that occurred in a hotel. In 2006, he even spent two months in jail for assaulting a tow truck driver and city employee.
